TCSPP Global-01.jpg

International Education Week is a national event coordinated by the U.S. Department of State and Department of Education to celebrate and promote international education and exchange. It is a joint initiative to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment as well as attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange in the U.S. We believe that the more people pursue an international education, the more discoveries are made, global challenges are tackled, and we develop a better understanding of each other.

Managing Change in the UAE Higher Education Institutions During COVID-19: Challenges of Implementation

The COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown had severe global socio-economic and health impacts. Higher education in the UAE and Middle Eastern region were not exempted from this impact. In this talk, we will examine the impact Covid-19 had on higher education. Specifically, we will focus on:

  • business continuity and course delivery,
  • faculty, staff, and student accessibility,
  • academic quality, assessment structures, and learning,
  • research productivity,
  • government regulations,
  • faculty, students, and staff health,

With the shift to a complete digital environment, HEIs in the UAE found themselves under tremendous amount of pressure to meet the same level of quality by students, local regulators, and stakeholders. Despite the lack of experience in online delivery, most of UAE HEIs have met the challenge by adopting innovative models and technologies to ensure quality of learning. They emerged stronger and have gained insights into how to efficiently deliver online curriculum, better manage the COVID-19 challenges, improve the face-to-face instructions, and support student learning and development.
